Types of ground in Sabiote
In the municipality of Sabiote, the geological substrate is composed mainly of limestones, dolomites and marbles, accounting for more than 80% of the underlying materials. This predominance of carbonate rocks suggests a high bearing capacity, which generally allows conventional shallow foundations to be adopted, provided that the continuity and competence of these strata are confirmed. However, the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts introduces a potential risk of dissolution, which may lead to instability if they are found in the vicinity of the site. In addition, the low to very low permeability characteristics of these materials point to limited natural drainability, which must be taken into account in the foundation design.

The non-clayey substrate makes it possible to rule out the risk of expansiveness. Nevertheless, given the karstic nature of the carbonate materials, it is essential to carry out a detailed investigation to rule out the existence of voids or dissolution before defining the type of foundation, this being the main geotechnical constraint for new construction in the locality.
