Types of ground in Rus
In Rus, the geological substrate is dominated by limestones, dolomites and marbles, accounting for almost 78% of the soils, accompanied to a lesser extent by sandstones, conglomerates, flysch and occasional levels of gypsum and salts. These lithologies, normally compact and of low permeability, can provide a good bearing capacity for shallow or semi-deep foundations. However, the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts requires attention to the possible risk of dissolution, which may affect the long-term stability of structures if it coincides with the bearing zone.
Seismic activity in Rus is very low, with only one event in the last 30 years and a maximum recorded magnitude of 1.5, so seismicity does not condition the structural design. Nevertheless, the karst genesis of the carbonate materials requires that the possible presence of cavities or prior dissolution processes be carefully verified before any foundation is carried out. On the other hand, the non-clayey substrate eliminates the risk of ground expansivity, with the assessment of karst being the main geotechnical factor in this municipality.
