In Ròtova, soils formed by limestones, dolomites and marbles predominate, accounting for more than 70% of the substratum, which generally provides an adequate bearing capacity for conventional and deep foundations. The smaller levels of gravels and compacted sands, together with the limited presence of gypsum or salts, indicate local variability; limestones and dolomites are especially important due to their strength and favourable behaviour under loads. However, the occasional presence of soluble materials such as gypsum or salts increases the risk of dissolution, which should be examined particularly in specific studies, and the occurrence of water masses suggests possible shallow aquifers that may affect foundation design.

Seismic activity in the area is very low, with only one event in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.5; therefore, seismicity does not constitute a relevant structural constraint. The non-clayey substratum rules out risks of expansiveness, favouring the stability of the ground against changes in moisture. However, the potential karst features associated with carbonate materials necessitate a prior assessment, since the existence of cavities or dissolutions could condition the foundation and the safety of the planned structure; this is the main factor to take into account during the geotechnical study in Ròtova.
