Types of ground in Roses
In Roses, substrates of slate and schist predominate, accounting for more than half of the local geology, followed by igneous formations such as granites and gneisses. These materials form competent soils with a high bearing capacity and low deformability, factors that allow direct foundations to be designed in most situations, always taking into account the possible intercalation of layers of overconsolidated clays or marls. A specific analysis is only recommended in the presence of levels of sandstones, conglomerates or flysch, although these soils are less frequent and, due to their nature, also do not usually present serious drawbacks for foundation design.
Seismicity in Roses is very low, with only about two recorded events every thirty years and a maximum magnitude below 4.5, which minimises seismic conditions as limiting factors for structural design. As there are no predominant clayey ground conditions, the risk of expansivity is completely ruled out in most cases. No issues associated with karstic formations are identified either, nor the presence of soils that are particularly problematic, placing the competent bedrock nature of the substrate as the main favourable conditioning factor for foundation projects in the area.
