Types of ground in Quarter
In Quart, the subsoil is for the most part made up of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, representing approximately half of the materials encountered. These substrates are characterised by high strength and low deformability, which favours a high bearing capacity and allows conventional shallow foundations in most cases. Slates and schists, present in smaller proportions, can locally influence geotechnical behaviour, whereas sedimentary formations such as sandstone and flysch are less frequent and usually show good stability, although occasionally they exhibit variability in bearing quality.
Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only two recorded events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.2, so it is not considered a relevant conditioning factor for structural design. However, the possible presence of karstification makes it necessary to carry out specific investigations to rule out underground voids or instabilities before designing the foundations. The non-clayey substrate eliminates the risk of expansivity, with the main aspect to be controlled being the verification of karst processes beneath the area of intervention.
