Types of ground in Puerto del Rosario
In Puerto del Rosario, ground is predominantly formed by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, which constitute a solid and competent substrate. This type of soil provides a high bearing capacity, ideal for shallow and deep direct foundations, although it is essential to assess the surface weathering of the rock. Occasional contributions of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch, together with subordinate levels of limestones and dolomites, can introduce some local heterogeneity, but they do not usually pose major problems for the stability of the foundations. The rare presence of fine sands and silts should be controlled, as in appreciable thicknesses they can affect the uniformity of the ground bearing.
Seismicity in the area is very low, with barely 4 recorded events and a maximum magnitude of 2.6 over the last 30 years, which rules out significant restrictions for this reason in structural design. Karst does not appear as a characteristic phenomenon, and the available information does not reveal risks associated with clay expansivity, since clayey substrates appear only occasionally and have an overconsolidated and hard nature. The key constraint in local geotechnical studies is provided mainly by assessing the quality and continuity of the dominant rock mass.
