In the municipality of Poio, the dominant subsoil is composed mainly of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which account for more than 70% of the soils present, complemented by the significant presence of slates and schists. These materials consolidate a competent bedrock, generally suitable for shallow and semi-deep foundations, as they usually provide good bearing capacity. Fine sands and silts, although present in a smaller proportion, may require specific assessment in localised areas due to their lower compactness and stability.
With regard to seismicity, Poio lies in a zone of moderate seismic activity, with 15 events in the last 30 years, but with a low maximum magnitude (Mmax 2.2), which significantly reduces the importance of this factor in structural design. There are no risks associated with karst or with the presence of expansive clays, since the subsoil is not clayey.
