Types of ground in Pit
The municipality of Ingenio is located on a substrate predominantly made up of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, which provides a solid, stable foundation for footings. The occasional presence of fine sands, silts and detrital materials such as sandstones and conglomerates may locally affect bearing capacity, although overall the predominance of well-cemented igneous materials offers a favourable environment for both shallow and deep foundation systems, depending on the specific project. Anthropogenic fill and the low proportion of overconsolidated clays rarely change the overall behaviour of the ground, but they must be identified on site to avoid unexpected settlements.
Seismicity in Ingenio is very low, with only 2 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.7, which reduces the strict requirements in the seismic design of structures. No risks associated with karst or expansive soils are identified, and the substrate does not contain materials susceptible to dissolution such as gypsum or salts. The main condition to be considered in the geotechnical studies for the municipality is the localised heterogeneity linked to the presence of less competent materials or fill; accordingly, it is recommended to characterise the geotechnical profile thoroughly before carrying out the foundations.
