Types of ground in Peralada
In Peralada, the substratum is mainly composed of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch-type materials, with a very notable presence, accompanied to a lesser extent by fine sands, silts and denser formations such as overconsolidated clays and marls. This combination generally provides ground that is suitable for shallow or semi-deep foundations, owing to its moderate to high bearing capacity and its stable behaviour. However, the low overall permeability of these formations suggests additional precautions in case of the possible presence of aquifers at depth, particularly when designing deep foundations.
The Peralada area shows moderate seismicity, with 37 recorded events over thirty years and a maximum magnitude value of 2.4, which implies a limited structural impact for typical projects. There are no risks arising from expansivity, as the substratum is not clayey and, therefore, this condition can be ruled out. However, the possible presence of karst processes requires thorough verification of the ground before proceeding with any foundation, as the existence of cavities or dissolutions may be the most determining factor for the design and viability of the works.
