In the municipality of Páramo, formations of limestones, dolomites and marbles predominate, accompanied by sectors with slates, schists and, in smaller proportions, muds and peats of deltaic origin. The carbonated materials usually provide a high bearing capacity, although the occasional presence of muds and peats discourages their use as a support level for foundations due to their low strength and high settlement potential. These strata, generally impermeable or with very low permeability, may in some cases host shallow aquifers, which affects the choice of the most suitable foundation type.
