In Orba, calcareous materials predominate, such as limestones, dolomites and marbles, accompanied in smaller proportions by deposits of gravels and compact sands. These soils generally exhibit a high bearing capacity, suitable for shallow foundations if the bedrock is exposed or close to the surface. Fine sands, silts and stiff clays are found only in isolated and rare cases, and they scarcely affect the overall ground behaviour. The low permeability of the most common formations implies minimal risks of differential settlement due to leaching or softening processes, except in the presence of superficially localised aquifers.

It is worth highlighting the presence of karst-related phenomena associated with the calcareous materials, which is why their verification is essential before carrying out any foundation, given the potential risk of underground voids.
