Types of ground in Olazti/Olazagutía
In Olazti/Olazagutía, calcareous, dolomitic and marble soils predominate, which gives the subsoil high strength and bearing capacity, ideal for the installation of shallow or deep foundations depending on structural requirements. Secondarily, there are sandstones, conglomerates and flysch; materials with competent behaviour, and in smaller proportions, fine sands and silts that may be found in localised strata, although they are less suitable for direct support due to their lower strength and higher compressibility.
Seismicity in the area is very low, with scarcely two events in thirty years and a maximum magnitude below 2, which minimises the influence of seismic actions on structural design. The non-clayey subsoil rules out the risk of expansivity. However, as this is an environment where karst is common, it is essential to investigate the presence of caves or voids in the ground before carrying out the foundation, as this factor constitutes the main geotechnical conditioning in the municipality.
