Types of ground in Okondo

In Okondo, formations of limestones, dolomites and marbles predominate, representing most of the substrate and providing good conditions in terms of bearing capacity for shallow foundations, provided that they are found in a massive state and do not present structural alterations. Sandstones, conglomerates, flysch and, in a low proportion, fine sands and silts are also observed; the latter are much less common and do not represent a main conditioning factor. The low permeability of the ground suggests that the water table is usually controlled by shallow aquifers, which is relevant for the siting of foundations and the management of groundwater.

With regard to seismicity, Okondo shows high activity, with 200 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 4, which makes it necessary to assess seismic action in the structural design of any project. The geotechnical analysis in this municipality does not show any risks of expansivity, since the dominant substrate is not clayey. The main geotechnical conditioning factor in the area therefore lies in the high seismicity and in the need to study the quality and continuity of the rock mass as a support for foundations.
