Types of ground in Moya
In Moya, the ground is characterised mainly by the presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles, followed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, which suggests a competent subsoil and generally good bearing capacity suitable for shallow foundations. The occasional existence of deltaic muds and peats means these layers must be avoided as a support level, as they exhibit low strength and high compressibility. In addition, the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts introduces a variable risk linked to possible dissolution, especially under conditions of water flow, which requires careful assessment in the geotechnical study prior to foundation works.
The area shows very low seismicity, with only one recorded event over 30 years and a low maximum magnitude, which minimises the seismic impact on structural design. However, given the dominant nature of the limestones and dolomites, the development of karst processes must be verified before defining the foundation solution, as cavities or local subsidence may occur. As the site is founded on a non-clayey subsoil, the risk of expansivity is ruled out, leaving the presence of karst and evaporite layers as the main factors to be evaluated in detail in the geotechnical study.
