Types of ground in Mos
In the municipality of Mos, the predominant soils correspond to slates and schists, followed very closely by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, with occasional presence of fine sands and silts. These materials mean that the ground is generally stable and has good bearing capacity, although its low permeability can lead to retention of water on the surface. The substrate typology favours the use of conventional shallow foundations; however, a detailed analysis of possible areas with silts or fine sands is recommended, to rule out the presence of strata with potential for local loss of bearing capacity.
Seismicity in Mos is moderate, with 11 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.2, making it a factor of little relevance for project design. No presence of karst is identified, nor is there any risk of expansion due to clay, since the substrate is mostly non-clayey, thereby ruling out problems associated with expansivity. The main constraint is therefore to ensure correct management of surface water and to analyse the local characteristics of the foundation material in order to avoid issues related to subsurface dampness.
