Estudio geotécnico in Montesquiu

In Montesquiu, the geotechnical substratum is characterised mainly by the presence of white or soft expansive clays, which account for 56,25% of the soils, followed by formations of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, and in a smaller proportion, limestones, dolomites and marbles. The predominance of low-permeability materials with conditions that are not very favourable for the drainage of water can significantly influence bearing capacity and the choice of foundation type. However, since the substratum is not predominantly clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out as a fundamental adverse factor in the design of the foundation.

The seismic activity recorded for Montesquiu is very low, with only 5 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude (Mmax) of 1.6, and therefore does not represent a relevant constraint for the structural design of buildings. On the other hand, the area shows no indications of karstification, nor any effects due to gypsum or salts that could pose dissolution risks. Consequently, the main geotechnical consideration lies in controlling the compactness and consistency of the soft materials present, without factors related to seismicity, karst or expansivity having any significant impact.
