In Monachil, slates and schists clearly predominate—materials of low permeability that provide a relatively stable basis for conventional foundations, although they may present planes of weakness and fracturing to take into account in the prior analyses. The secondary presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles suggests possible localised areas with higher bearing capacity, although the development of karst in these lithologies must be verified before defining the foundation type. Fine sands and silts, due to their rarity, rarely directly affect the support, but require attention if they locally outcrop at shallow depths.
