Estudio geotécnico in Medio Cudeyo

In Medio Cudeyo, outcrops of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch-type materials predominate, providing a rock substrate with high bearing capacity, suitable for shallow foundations when the level of weathering is low. Locally, the occasional presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles may introduce complexity in characterising the ground, particularly if they are interbedded with gypsum, anhydrite and salts. Although these are rare, they may pose a risk of dissolution under certain conditions. The horizons of fine sands and silts must be identified and assessed, as they may exhibit lower bearing capacity and some compressibility, which in turn conditions the type of foundation recommended.

Seismicity in the municipality is very low, with only one recorded event every 30 years and a low maximum magnitude; for this reason, it is not considered relevant to structural design. Given the non-clayey nature of the substrate, the risk of expansive soils is ruled out. However, the possibility of karst formation in the limestone areas means that the presence of cavities or instances of dissolution must be verified before any foundation work, this being the main geotechnical factor to analyse in studies prior to construction.
