In Manlleu, white or soft expansive clays predominate, representing approximately half of the soils found in the municipality. Alongside these, compact gravels and sands are identified, as well as formations of sandstone, conglomerates and flysch, all with a significant frequency. This geotechnical context suggests a variable bearing capacity, particularly sensitive in the presence of soft clays, which may require specific foundation solutions to control settlements and ensure structural stability.

The area is characterised by very low seismicity, with only 5 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.6, so seismic risk is negligible for structural design purposes. The analysis of expansivity shows that the substrate is not clayey in general terms, thereby eliminating the risk associated with expansive clays. As the main geotechnical constraint, the low permeability of the ground stands out, together with the need for an accurate assessment of the soil type in order to adequately define the foundation, especially in areas dominated by white clays.
