Types of ground in Linares
In Linares, the predominant geological substrate is mostly composed of limestones, dolomites and marbles—highly competent rock formations that favour excellent bearing capacity for both shallow and deep direct foundations. The frequent presence of shales and schists, together with the occasional occurrence of sandstones, conglomerates, flysch and granular soils such as fine sands and silts, generally makes it possible to develop optimised foundation solutions, although it is always advisable to analyse each case individually. Hard clays are very scarce and do not significantly influence the overall ground behaviour for construction.
As for geotechnical hazards, seismicity in Linares is very low, with only 9 recorded events in the last three decades and a maximum magnitude of 3.5, which implies a practically negligible impact on typical structural design. As the substrate is mostly non-clayey, there is no risk of soil expansivity, and no significant karst phenomena are reported in the area either. The main factor to consider will be the punctual verification of bearing capacity in outcrops of less competent materials, although the geotechnical environment can be classified as favourable for foundation works.
