Types of ground in L'Escala

In L'Escala, the predominant substrate consists of fine sands and silts, representing more than 80% of the soil types present. These materials generally show low permeability, although deep aquifers of greater relevance may be found. As regards bearing capacity, the density and grading of the sands and silts can determine the type of foundation required, and in some cases ground improvement solutions are necessary. Occasional areas with deltaic muds and peats are also identified; these are not suitable as a bearing level and should be avoided to prevent excessive settlement.

With regard to seismicity, L'Escala presents a moderate level, with 10 recorded events over a period of 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.9, which does not represent a significant constraint for the design of structures. The absence of clayey materials rules out potential problems related to expansivity, allowing this risk to be disregarded in the geotechnical calculations.
