In Lahiguera, the subsoil is composed mainly of limestone formations, dolomites and marbles, together with a significant proportion of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch. The occasional presence of fine sands and silts may also affect the ground’s homogeneity in specific locations. These lithologies generally show good bearing capacity; however, the local variability of the materials—especially where sands or silts are more abundant—requires accurate in situ characterisation in order to determine the optimal foundation type.

With regard to seismicity, the recorded activity is very low, with only one event in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of less than 2.1, which minimises structural risks associated with seismic movements. There is no significant karst development in the area. However, the main factor to stand out is the presence of predominantly expansive clays, which entails a high risk for the stability of the foundations if specific design and control measures are not taken; therefore, their assessment during the geotechnical study is crucial.
