In La Torre de Claramunt, the predominant geological substrate is mostly made up of limestones, dolomites and marbles, with occasional occurrences of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch. These materials are characterised by a medium to high bearing capacity, which favours the choice of shallow (direct) foundations on competent strata. However, it is important to take into account the low near-surface permeabilities, as well as the possible existence of aquifers at depth; these aspects may condition the design of foundation solutions adapted to the local hydrogeology.

With regard to the relevant geotechnical risks, seismicity in the area is considered to be very low, with only a single recorded event over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.7, so it does not represent a constraint for structural design. Nevertheless, the presence of carbonate materials makes it necessary to verify the existence of karstification or cavities, as these may jeopardise the stability of the foundations. In addition, the non-clayey substrate rules out the risk of expansivity. The main aspect to control in the geotechnical study will be the identification and assessment of possible karst processes before starting any foundation work.
