In the municipality of La Seu d'Urgell, the dominant substrate is formed by slates and schists, characterised by a compact structure and adequate mechanical strength, which favours a good bearing capacity for buildings. These formations, together with the occasional presence of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, as well as small proportions of fine sands and silts, ensure suitable conditions for shallow or semi-deep foundations. However, the prevailing low permeability makes it necessary to carefully analyse surface runoff and possible accumulations of water near the foundation.
