In the municipality of La Rambla, the geological substratum is made up almost entirely of slate and schist, metamorphic rocks with high compactness and low permeability. These formations generally offer good bearing capacity and are suitable for shallow (direct) foundations, provided that their degree of surface alteration is verified. The low permeability implies that groundwater is usually found at very shallow, discontinuous levels, which minimises problems related to seepage or instability due to saturation.

With regard to seismicity, La Rambla shows very low seismic activity, with a recurrence of events of less than one event in 30 years and a maximum recorded magnitude of Mmax 1.6; therefore, it does not represent a relevant constraint in structural design. Since the substratum is not clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out. Accordingly, the most relevant aspect for geotechnical studies in La Rambla is the characterisation of the compactness and the degree of rock weathering, with a low risk of other constraints.
