In Jabalquinto, the subsoil is characterised mainly by the presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles, making up more than 50% of the substrate. These solid materials provide a high bearing capacity, which favours the design of shallow foundations, especially in areas where these outcrops predominate. Fine sands, silts, and to a lesser extent gravels and compact sands, occur in a relevant proportion and are generally suitable for foundation works if they have adequate density, although it is necessary to control their degree of compaction and the possible presence of surface water due to shallow aquifers. Hard clays and marls, although less frequent, can increase the heterogeneity of the profile, but their overconsolidated state generally minimises the risk of differential settlements.

Local seismicity is very low, with only 2 recorded events over 30 years and magnitudes below 2.5, which implies an almost negligible seismic risk for structural design. The substrate is not clayey, which rules out the problems associated with the expansivity of clays, further minimising the restrictive geotechnical conditions. Jabalquinto therefore presents a favourable geological setting, with the possible presence of water and lithological heterogeneity being the aspects that should be assessed as priorities through the geotechnical study.
