In Guriezo, soils formed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied by a considerable percentage of limestones, dolomites and marbles. These rock materials generally provide a good bearing capacity for foundations, although the presence of flysch may require careful characterisation due to its possible anisotropy and lithological diversity. The formations are, for the most part, of very low permeability, which limits the presence of groundwater and may create certain difficulties for drainage, but at the same time contributes stability for supporting structures, except in localised areas with superficial aquifers.

Seismicity in the municipality is classified as moderate, with 12 recorded events in the last 30 years and a low maximum magnitude (Mmax 1.9), so the seismic effect in structural design is of limited importance. The subsoil is not clayey, which rules out expansivity risks associated with clays. However, the notable frequency of limestones and dolomites increases the possibility of karst; therefore, the verification of cavities and rock-mass stability must be a priority before defining the viable foundation type, constituting the main local geotechnical constraint.
