Types of ground in Guaro
In the municipality of Guaro, the predominant presence of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch stands out, which make up almost 60% of the subsoil and define the conditions for construction. These materials generally offer good bearing capacity, although they may occasionally present more friable interbeds or fractures associated with the flysch. Metamorphic rocks such as slates and schists, together with granite and gneiss, are also found occasionally and provide additional stability and strength. Although limestones and dolomites are rare in the area, they should be considered on a local basis, albeit they do not dominate the overall formation. For foundations, it is usually possible to propose direct solutions, always assessing locally the homogeneity of the subsoil.
With regard to seismicity, Guaro is classified as having very low activity, recording only 1 significant seismic event every 30 years and with a maximum magnitude of 4. The ground is characterised by the absence of expansive clays, since a non-clayey subsoil predominates, which rules out risks of expansivity and makes it easier to select a foundation system with greater safety. There are also no signs of the development of karst processes. In conclusion, the main geotechnical constraint in Guaro will be determined by the possible internal variability of the flysch and the precise location of the competent layer, with the subsoil in general being suitable for construction by ruling out relevant risks associated with expansivity or seismicity.
