In Guadalix de la Sierra, the geology is dominated by slates and schists, representing more than 70% of the substrate, accompanied by smaller occurrences of granite, gneiss and, to a lesser extent, limestones and dolomites. These materials, fundamentally metamorphic and igneous, are characterised by high compactness and low permeability, which implies good bearing capacity for buildings and the possibility of shallow foundations, provided adequate thicknesses and homogeneity in the ground are ensured.

Local seismicity is very low, with only three events recorded in recent decades and a maximum magnitude limited, which minimises the need for seismic reinforcements in the structure. The occasional presence of calcareous and dolomitic beds recommends prior verification of the existence of karst-related phenomena before designing any foundation, given the potential instability associated with underground cavities. The absence of clayey soils rules out the risk of expansivity, and control of any potential karst is the main factor conditioning the feasibility of new developments.
