In Fuente-Álamo, the predominant substrate consists of fine sands and silts, which account for close to half of the soils in the municipality. This type of ground, with medium to low consistency, requires a detailed analysis of bearing capacity to determine the most suitable foundation type, particularly for building projects. In addition, the occasional presence of calcareous formations such as limestones, dolomites and marbles can provide good levels of strength, but the existence of areas with gypsum, anhydrite and salts poses additional risks associated with the dissolution of soluble materials. Layers of compact gravel and sand, although less common, may provide good conditions for supporting shallow foundations.

Local seismicity is very low, with records of only one event in the last 30 years and a very low maximum magnitude, so it does not constitute a relevant constraint in structural design. However, the possibility of developing karst features in the calcareous materials must be thoroughly verified before any foundation work, since voids or underground cavities may exist. As the substrate is non-clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out. Therefore, the main focus of the geotechnical study in Fuente-Álamo should be on characterising potential karst phenomena and on identifying areas containing soluble materials.
