Types of ground in Fitero
In Fitero, formations of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, which is favourable for the bearing capacity of foundations due to their compactness and stability. Less frequently, compact gravels and sands are encountered, whereas layers of gypsum, anhydrite and salts, although rare, require special attention because of their potential for dissolution. The low presence of fine sands and silts implies that compressibility problems are limited, but it is essential to precisely identify the lithology on the specific site before defining the foundation.
Seismicity in the municipality is classified as very low, with only 6 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3.3, so its impact on structural design is low. Although the existing substrate rules out risks from expansive soils because it is not clayey, the possible presence of karstification and gypsum-bearing formations makes it necessary to verify dissolution conditions and stability before foundation construction, this aspect being the main local geotechnical constraint.
