In Errenteria, soils formed by slates and schists predominate, with an occasional presence of limestones, dolomites, marbles and, to a lesser degree, sandstones and conglomerates. These materials, which are for the most part impervious in nature, exhibit a low capacity for volumetric deformation and acceptable strength for shallow foundations. However, the hardness and inherent fracturing of these strata may require adapted foundation solutions, such as slabs or braced strip footings, particularly if altered near-surface levels are located.

Seismic activity in the area is very low, with only 5 minor events and a low maximum magnitude of 2.7, which does not constitute a relevant constraint for structural design. As the substrate is non-clayey, the risk of expansivity is ruled out, thereby ensuring volumetric stability under building loads. The main factor to consider will be the heterogeneity and local fracturing of the substrate, which determines both bearing capacity and the uniformity of load distribution.
