In Elgeta, the dominant geotechnical substrate corresponds to formations of limestones, dolomites and marbles with a very significant presence, reaching almost 93%. These types of rock usually offer a high bearing capacity, which is beneficial for the stability of shallow or deep foundations. However, they show a generally low permeability structure, although there may be areas with discontinuous shallow aquifers that modulate the presence of water in the ground. The incidence of siliceous formations is marginal and, in general, does not significantly condition the behaviour of the soil for construction purposes.

With regard to geotechnical risks, local seismicity is very low, with only one event recorded in the last three decades and a maximum magnitude of 2.2, so it does not constitute a constraint for structural design. There are no signs of karstic processes or the presence of expansive clays in the subsoil, which rules out risks associated with subsidence, collapse or volumetric expansion. Consequently, the main element to be controlled in geotechnical studies in Elgeta will be the quality and compactness of the carbonate rocks as a foundation support, ensuring control of the groundwater level if there is a localised shallow aquifer.
