In Duruelo de la Sierra, soils formed by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied in a lesser proportion by limestones, dolomites and marbles. This rocky substrate confers high ground stability and bearing capacity, making it favourable for conventional shallow foundations in most cases. The generally low permeability of these materials results in limited impacts from the presence of groundwater, although superficial aquifers may exist in certain locations.

The municipality’s seismicity is high, with 200 events recorded over three decades, although the estimated maximum magnitude (Mmax 4.1) does not reach critical values. The risk of expansivity is ruled out by the non-clayey nature of the substrate. There is no impact from karstification in the formations present. The main geotechnical consideration therefore lies in the high seismicity, which must be taken into account especially in the structural design of new-build projects.
