In Colmenar Viejo, sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied in significant proportions by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, as well as shales and schists to a lesser extent. These lithologies provide a competent and stable foundation, with good bearing capacity for shallow (direct) foundations, although the local presence of shales may require targeted review of strength and deformability.
