In Cheste, the dominant substrate is composed of limestones, dolomites and marbles, materials with high strength and low deformability, which translates into an excellent bearing capacity for direct foundations. Occasionally, levels of gypsum, anhydrite and salts are identified, as well as fine sands and silts, although the latter usually do not present favourable conditions for structural support compared with the main carbonate lithotypes. The dominant presence of these compact rocks favours the use of conventional foundations, but it is always necessary to verify local conditions and the variability of the formations for correct foundation design.

Seismicity in the municipality is moderate, with 14 events recorded in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.8, which does not entail particular requirements in design due to seismic actions. However, caution must be exercised regarding the possible presence of karst phenomena, given the carbonate nature of the substrate and the occasional frequency of gypsum, which can promote dissolution and the formation of underground cavities. Karst is identified as the determining factor and must be rigorously assessed through the corresponding geotechnical study prior to any type of foundation.
