In Cervelló, carbonate materials predominate, such as limestones, dolomites and marbles, which determines a rocky substrate with high bearing capacity for conventional foundations. Secondary formations, such as sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, together with the occasional presence of gypsum, anhydrite and salts, introduce local variability in ground competence. Slates, schists and hard clays are in the minority, so the risk of differential settlement is usually low. In this context, the geotechnical study should focus especially on establishing the continuity of the sound rock and on ruling out active or passive karst phenomena as the main constraint for the project.
