In Cerdedo-Cotobade, the most representative formations from a geotechnical point of view include sandstones, conglomerates and flysch, accompanied to a lesser extent by slates and schists. These materials are characterised by a low overall permeability, which limits the development of deep aquifers, although shallow aquifers may exist. The mechanical properties of these soils, especially their density and cohesion, provide good bearing capacities for shallow foundations, although it is important to carry out adequate characterisation to avoid differential settlements, particularly in the transition between lithological materials.

Local seismicity is considered moderate, with 28 events detected in the last 30 years and a relatively low maximum magnitude (Mmax 3.1); therefore, seismic risk is not decisive in structural planning. There are no indications of karstification or signs of expansive soils, since the underlying substrate present rules out the risk of expansivity. The main geotechnical factor to consider will be the lithological transitions and possible shallow aquifers, which requires a careful study of the profile during the initial phase of the project.
