Types of ground in Centelles

In Centelles, geotechnical investigations reveal a predominance of white, soft expansive clays, which account for more than 50% of the near-surface subsoil. These units exhibit very low permeability, creating unfavourable drainage conditions and the occurrence of shallow aquifers in specific areas. Limestone, dolomites and marbles appear as frequent formations, potentially suitable for shallow foundations provided that their integrity conditions are verified. The occasional presence of sandstones and conglomerates adds heterogeneity to the geotechnical profile, making it advisable to study them in order to anticipate changes in bearing capacity depending on the location of the project.

The majority non-clayey subsoil rules out the risk of expansivity in most interventions and there are no karst processes in the area. Therefore, the key factor to consider during the geotechnical study is the appropriate characterisation of the soft clays, particularly with regard to their compressibility and degree of saturation, in order to define the safest and most efficient foundation type.
