Estudio geotécnico in Castuera

In Castuera, substrates of slate and schist predominate—metamorphic materials that provide a solid and competent foundation for conventional foundations, although their permeability is very low. To a lesser extent, areas of granite, gneiss and some compact gravels or sands are present which, due to their nature, also offer a high bearing capacity. This provides certain advantages for the design of shallow strip footings or slabs, provided that settlement, local structural integrity and possible superficial aquifer systems—scarce in number—are taken into account.

Seismicity in the area is very low, with only 3 recorded events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude (Mmax) of 3, which means it does not represent a significant concern for structural design. There are no records of karstification or the presence of expansive clayey soils, so the risk of subsidence, karst collapses or expansivity is completely ruled out owing to the non-clayey substrate. Thus, the main constraint for the geotechnical study is to ensure adequate characterisation of the supporting rock and to verify any possible surface alterations.
