Types of ground in Castropodame

In Castropodame, the dominant geological substrate is made up of slates and schists, which accounts for approximately two thirds of the surrounding area, providing a competent and low-deformability foundation for construction. The occasional presence of silts and peats of deltaic origin, although less frequent, indicates areas with low bearing capacity and high compressibility; these are conditions that are not suitable for foundations and should be avoided as a support level. Sandstones, conglomerates and flysch that are present occasionally can provide some degree of local variability, but overall areas of low permeability predominate, which reduces the risk of ground saturation and the associated differential settlements linked to groundwater.
