Estudio geotécnico in Carrizosa

In Carrizosa, soils are predominantly formed by gypsum, anhydrite and salts, together with extensive areas of limestones, dolomites and marbles. These lithologies are fundamental in determining bearing capacity, which is usually good in the carbonate areas but may be compromised in gypsum-bearing sectors due to the risks of dissolution and subsidence associated with them. The presence of fine sands and silts is occasional and only affects overall behaviour to a limited extent, but their characteristics must be analysed where they occur. In all cases, a detailed geotechnical study is essential in order to select a safe foundation level, avoiding areas with gypsum close to the surface due to their potential instability.

Seismicity in Carrizosa is very low, with only two recorded events over thirty years and a low maximum magnitude. However, the surrounding environment shows karst development, which implies the requirement to check for the existence of cavities before any foundation project. The substratum contains no expansive clays, ruling out concern about expansivity in the design. In short, the main constraint is constituted by karst processes and the possible occurrence of dissolution phenomena in gypsum-bearing soils, which must be thoroughly assessed in any geotechnical study in the area.
