In Cardedeu, soils predominate that are formed by compacted gravels and sands, accompanied to a lesser extent by sandstones, conglomerates and flysch. This substratum, being mainly granular and well compacted, provides generally high bearing capacity, which facilitates the adaptation of shallow foundations for most structures. The low presence of clayey materials and the consolidation of the strata minimise risks associated with differential settlement.

With regard to seismicity, Cardedeu exhibits very low seismic activity, with only 5 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.6, which implies a low incidence of structural requirements due to this phenomenon. The absence of karst and the non-clayey nature of the substratum rule out significant risks of both expansivity and underground collapses. Thus, geotechnical control focuses mainly on characterising the lithological profile and the groundwater level.
