Estudio geotécnico in Cantillana

In Cantillana, the ground is characterised mainly by the presence of granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks, together with areas of water mass and deposits of compacted gravels and sands. These materials provide a very good bearing capacity and usually show low differential settlements, which allows the adoption of shallow direct foundations in most cases. It is nevertheless important to identify the local presence of fine sands and silts, as these could give rise to areas of lower local stability, especially in the vicinity of the water mass.

The seismicity in Cantillana is very low, with only 7 events in the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 3.3, which minimises the need to take additional measures in structural design related to seismic movements. In addition, no risks associated with expansivity due to clays are identified, since the non-clayey bedrock eliminates this concern. The main constraint for the geotechnical study in this area will therefore be the precise characterisation of the dominant lithology and the identification of possible areas with the presence of surface water, in order to define a safe and efficient foundation.
