In Campos del Río, limestone, dolomite and marble formations predominate as the substrate, accounting for close to half of the ground. These rock materials offer excellent bearing capacity for foundations owing to their high compaction and strength, although the occasional presence of gravels and compact sands, and, to a lesser extent, of fine sands and silts, introduces some variability in the local geotechnical response. It is essential to analyse in detail the transition between these strata, since heterogeneity can influence the choice of foundation type and the differential behaviour of structural supports.

The municipality’s seismicity is moderate, with a record of 29 events over 30 years and a maximum magnitude below 4.5, so seismic risk does not constitute the main structural limitation. The predominantly non-clayey nature of the substrate rules out the risk of ground expansivity. However, given the dominant calcareous nature, the presence of karst processes must be rigorously assessed before carrying out any foundation works, as cavities or dissolution can compromise the safety and stability of any planned civil engineering project.
