At Calella, soils formed by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks predominate, followed by slates, schists and, to a lesser extent, compact gravels and sands. These lithologies provide a solid and stable foundation, with a very good bearing capacity, enabling the design of direct shallow surface foundations in most cases. However, the low permeability of these materials may lead to the presence of surface runoff or the accumulation of water in altered formations; these factors must be taken into account when managing drainage during construction.

Seismicity is very low (5 events in 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 1.6), so it does not represent a special requirement for the design of foundations at Calella. No evidence of karst is recorded, nor of materials with a risk of expansivity, since the non-clayey substratum rules out this type of pathology. Thus, the most relevant phenomenon to analyse is the homogeneity and local alteration of the granitic materials, which may influence foundation depth and long-term performance.
