In Cabeza del Buey, the dominant substrate is formed by slates and schists, occasionally accompanied by granite, gneiss and other igneous rocks. These materials provide a competent and traditionally stable foundation, which favours good bearing capacity for buildings and other infrastructure. The compacted gravels and sands, although present in a small proportion, can provide better drainage conditions, while the rare overconsolidated clays and marls strengthen ground stability. Overall, foundations on these lithologies are straightforward, generally allowing conventional and shallow solutions.

The area shows very low seismicity, with a record of only 1 event over 30 years and an Mmax of 1.9, which rules out the need to consider seismic factors as a priority in structural design. As it is not a karst area and, given the absence of gypsum-bearing materials or salts, there is no risk associated with dissolution or ground collapse. The predominance of a non-clayey substrate rules out the problem of expansivity, ensuring volumetric stability under structural loads. The general impermeability of the materials does need to be considered in relation to possible accumulations of surface water in specific cases.
