In Cabana de Bergantiños, slates and schists predominate, representing more than 60% of the substrate. These materials have low permeability and good mechanical characteristics for direct shallow foundation, provided they are found at an adequate depth. The sandstones, conglomerates and flysch—also present in significant amounts—may introduce certain heterogeneities, but in general they provide sufficient strength to support normal structural loads. Occasional levels of fine sands and silts, although infrequent, require confirmation of their compactness, as a low density may not be suitable for direct support.

Seismic activity in the area is moderate, with 12 events over 30 years and a maximum recorded magnitude of 3.4, which implies low seismicity and, therefore, limited seismic requirements for structural design. The substrate is not clayey, ruling out any notable risk associated with expansive soils during construction phases. No karst processes have been reported, nor any other relevant geological pathologies, so the main factor to consider in geotechnical studies will be the adequate characterisation of the rock and the control of any potential levels of loose or altered materials.
