In Burguillos del Cerro, soils formed by sandstone, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied by shales, schists and granitic and igneous surfaces. These lithologies generally exhibit a good to moderate bearing capacity, which favours shallow (direct) foundations. The low permeability of these materials implies that surface aquifers may occur, but they rarely affect the stability of foundations negatively if the groundwater table level is controlled.

Seismicity is moderate in the area, with 24 recorded events over the last 30 years and a maximum magnitude of 2.1, which indicates a very limited seismic impact for structural design. It is worth noting the occasional presence of limestones and dolomites, materials that may be susceptible to karstification; therefore, it is necessary to verify in detail the possible presence of karst cavities before defining the optimal foundation. The non-clayey substrate rules out the risk of expansivity, with the main precaution being control of karst in building or civil engineering projects.
