In Benalup-Casas Viejas, strata of sandstones, conglomerates and flysch predominate, accompanied in good proportions by fine sands and silts. In general, these lithologies present an adequate bearing capacity for shallow foundations, although in areas where silts or fine sands predominate it may be necessary to carry out a more detailed study of compaction and the risk of settlement. Compact gravels and sands, although less frequent, offer excellent conditions for supporting foundations, whilst the occasional presence of limestones, dolomites and marbles expands the range of available solutions, provided their discontinuity and fracturing allow it.

The area has very low seismicity, with a maximum magnitude that is low; therefore, this factor does not represent a relevant concern in structural design. There are no significant karstified formations, nor are materials susceptible to expansivity detected, since the non-clayey substrate rules out this risk. The main condition to consider in the geotechnical study will be the presence of heterogeneous materials and the location of shallow aquifers, which may influence the ground’s stability and drainage behaviour.
